FAQ – Studying & Working Part Time

Studying & Working Part Time

  • Will my scholarship amount be reduced if I work part time while studying?

    Cantonal scholarships
The amount of income that is included in scholarship calculations is different from canton to canton. Please consult the relevant legislation for your cantonal scholarship office. You can find the rules under the section about personal income (in German «Eigenleistung»).

    UZH scholarships
This is only the case if you earn more than CHF 3,000 per semester or CHF 6,000 per year.

  • I'm a student and am working too much at my (part-time) job. What can I do?
If you are asking this question, you are probably overloaded and have too little time to rest and recuperate. You may also be taking too long to complete your studies. Ask yourself what your priorities are. Would it be possible to live on a reduced budget? Try to discuss these issues with your parents.
If you do not qualify for a scholarship because your parents earn too much money, please get in touch with us so that we can find a solution together. Contact

  • I’m an international student. How many hours can I work while I'm studying?
